The CAIC Avalanche Forecast map is a great start to understanding local avalanche conditions. However, it is NOT a substitute for in-depth, on-the-ground, avalanche risk assessment.
The American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) is the nationally recognized curriculum for avalanche education in the USA. AIARE offers many local avalanche safety certification courses.
