Medicine Bow Peak Loop

This 6.7 mile loop takes you up and around the Medicine Bow Peaks, showcasing the breathtaking views from the top as well as the dozens of alpine lakes beneath.

The trail is challenging with the peak reaching over 12,000ft and large sections of the trail being steep and covered in boulders. Bring a lunch, snacks and plenty of water!

Arthur’s Rock

This quick 3.4 mile trail is a Fort Collins classic. Located in Lori State Park, just a few minutes away from campus, this hike is perfect for anybody looking to spend a couple hours of their busy day outside.

The trail is very welcoming to all skill levels, with only a few steep sections that can be taken at any pace. Once at the top, enjoy stunning views of horsetooth and Fort Collins!

Horsetooth Rock

Want to express your Fort Collins pride and get in a little workout? Hike up to the Horsetooth rock! This staple of Foco iconography can be hiked up to from the Horsetooth Open Space, just on the south side of the reservoir. The trail is about 2.5mi round trip.

This hike, while short, packs over 1000ft in elevation gain. It can be completed in a couple of hours but expect a workout!

Greyrock

This is a 7.2 mile out-and-back trail (or 10 mile loop if you return through the meadows) that is a bit more challenging with over 2000ft in elevation gain. The trailhead is approx. a 30 minute drive from campus and is located near Laporte, Colorado.

This trail offers expansive views of the front range, including RMNP on a clear day. An Outdoor Club favorite, we usually host one trip up here a semester.

Ouzel Falls & Ouzel Lake

This is a 10 mile, 1,700ft out-and-back trail in Rocky Mountain National Park. The trail takes you along forest creek that has four rushing waterfalls and ends at the alpine lake from which they all flow. It is best during the spring when the snow melt fills the falls.

If you want an easier hike, you can also skip the lake and just do the falls for a 6m, 1,100ft hike.

Away From Home

Mt. Ida

Mt. Ida trail (9m, 2,400ft) in Rocky Mountain National Park takes you to the top of a mountain along the Continental Divide with panoramic views of Long’s Peak, Grand Lake, and many alpine lakes surrounded by forested meadows and high peaks. There are also a lot of marmots along the grassy ridgeline trail.

On the drive there you will go along the famously scenic Trail Ridge Road that travels over 12,000ft mountains with amazing views of RMNP.
