THE PLAN
We will be meeting in the northwest corner of the Morgan Library Parking Lot at 5:00PM on Friday, October 3rd. At the parking lot, an officer will check off your name. We will be leaving at 6PM no matter what. This is a hard deadline. At the parking lot we will arrange a carpool to ensure all members and their gear have a ride. The drive to our campsite is approximately 3 hours. We will be camping 2 nights and returning to campus on Sunday. There are a variety of activities available to members in and around Steamboat. We welcome you to go do whatever you want on Saturday (as long as you tell us about your cool adventures that night at the campfire ;) ]. DO NOT leave the people you drove on Friday behind when you go adventure on saturday. Nobody wants to be abandoned. Make sure you make a plan with them Friday night.
THE DRIVE
The drive to our campsite is approximately 3 hours. When you reach the destination, an officer will direct you to park and assign you a parking spot. There are a LOT of cars, we don't want it to be chaos and we want to respect Leave-No-Trace principles at this site as best as possible. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are you allowed to share information on the location of the checkpoint or the coordinates for the campsite with anyone who doesn't make the signup, who isn't an OC member, or who isn't a CSU Student. This is for all our safety. DONT SHARE THE LOCATIONS WITH ANYONE!!!
SUNDAY DEPARTURE
There will be a MANDATED DEPARTURE TIME OF 10AM ON SUNDAY. None of us want to be there, we all want to get home, and it's a long ass drive. Do not oversleep, that is not chill. Before you leave, you MUST CHECK OUT with an officer. You must verify that you cleaned up all your garbage and are leaving with everything you came with. Most importantly, you must must must LEAVE WITH EVERYONE YOU CAME WITH or prove to us that they have arranged another ride. If your car is parked at the bottom of the hill, be patient and an officer will shuttle you down. WEATHER- It's gonna be COLD at night. Temperatures will sink down to the low 30's. Don't try to cheat your way through the weekend with warm weather gear, you will be CHILLY, and you will regret it. Days will be temperate, peaking around 60 degrees. Sudden weather changes, including rain and thunderstorms, are possible. Prepare Accordingly.
CAMPFIRES - One of the many things we use your dues for is to buy club firewood. We are going to have a massive, super duper ultra long fire pit that will be maintained by the officer team. It will be plenty to satisfy your pyromania, dw. YOU MAY NOT LIGHT YOUR OWN CAMPFIRES. It's a giant liability and LNT issue with this many people. Please don't do it.
AMPLIFIED MUSIC - You will not be allowed to play music off speakers on this trip. There is going to be 200+ of us, and this is a social trip about socializing. Music at the campfires both nights will be chill and run by the officer team. Now if you wanted to bring an acoustic guitar? That would be sick. As a matter of fact you should do that.
WHAT TO BRING
Warm Sleeping Bag. 20 degree temperature rating is recommended. A 0 or 15 degree is even better. A 32 degree bag will be inadequate and you will be a very chilly individual. Tent, Sleeping pad - This is non-negotiable. sleeping pads are not cushions, they are thermal barriers. Without a sleeping pad you will be very cold, and hypothermia sucks!!! Hiking Boots, Daypack, Food - Outdoor club does not provide food to members on trips. You need Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and a plan to eat Sunday morning on the drive home. Cooking equipment, Sunscreen, Warm clothes - Jacket, pants, gloves, hat, etc. Folding chair, blanket, Rain jacket, HELLA WATER - Seriously, bring a lot of water. There is limited water at the site so plan for drinking water, cooking water, etc. One water bottle isn't enough. Two liters isn't enough. Please try to bring 4 or more liters of water with you (That's 4 nalgenes and abt 3.5 hydro flasks). Gas money for your driver and a national park pass if you intend to visit any national park. A kind attitude and good vibes!
WHERE TO GET GEAR
Bring your own. Rent. The outdoor program at the Rec Center rents a variety of camping gear to students. The rental desk is located in the Rec adjacent to the climbing wall when you first walk in. It costs 25 dollars a semester to rent unlimited gear. You can keep rental gear for 5 days. Gear will go VERY fast, try to be the first to get there if you are depending on rental equipment. For best results, get there when they open at 1PM on Thursday. For more information, go to this link:

The Outdoor Club is huge and many people have equipment they are willing to lend or share. Talk to a friend, come to the meeting on Wednesday and ask some people, or jump on the telegram group chat and see if anyone can give you a hand. Buy used. Everyone knows new gear is pricey. Fort Collins has great, locally owned second-hand outdoor stores. Check out Second Wind Sports or Gearage and you may get the thrift find of the century!
